I chose to use this image because I feel that the image in the broken lens shows the symbolic consequences of the lens breaking. Since the glasses represent civilization and order, the breaking of the lens symbolizes the boys descent into savagery. The image in the lens shows boys with red eyes and spears. This represents the boys savage nature. By putting this image in the broken lens, it shows the consequences of the glasses breaking. I really feel that this image sums up how the breaking of the glasses symbolizes the boys' descent into savagery.
“Piggy took back his glasses and looked at the smoke with pleasure.” (Golding 162)
This quote means Piggy was pleased to see that his glasses were able to help the boys make a fire. Piggy has asthma and is over weight, these conditions restrict his abilities to help the group. He is not physically able to help them. Piggy is pleased though to see that he is able to help them by letting the boys use his glasses to create fire. This symbolizes that even though Piggy is physically challenged, he is still able to contribute to the rescue effort.
